DR. CARA McLAUGHLIN

Dr Cara McLaughlin, AKA Dr Mac, was born and raised in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri. She spent her childhood in Gladstone attending Gashland/Clardy elementary, Antioch Middle and graduating from Oak Park High School in 2011.

Dr Mac volunteered at Gladstone Animal Shelter at age 11-14 where she continued to grow her passion to become a Veterinarian. In 2010, she became a kennel attendant for Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital later training to be a technician. Dr Michael Hodgson and Dr Lianne Carr were her first Veterinary mentors and left a very meaningful impact. Dr Mac continued her prerequisite studies through community college while working in the veterinary field. She pursued emergency medicine working with Dr Karl Mischke at the Animal Emergency Center and developed her love for Critical and Preventative care medicine. She assisted Dr Kent Jackson on large animal ambulatory calls in Platte City and gained an appreciation for all aspects of a veterinarian’s hard work.

In 2014, Dr Mac moved to Phoenix, AZ fulfilling another lifelong dream. She continued working as a vet tech in emergency while never giving up on her ultimate goal of being a Vet. In 2021, Dr Mac graduated from Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also welcomed her first son, Jacob, the same year in January. Dr Mac began working in Phoenix as a general practice associate and later working relief in Emergency. Her heart called her home in 2023 and she’s thrilled to join Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital as a Veterinarian. Dr Mac is enthusiastic to meet you and your furry loved ones. She is intrigued by integrative medicine, palliative/hospice care, chronic enteropathies, neonate care, endocrine disorders (especially diabetes) and allergy management.

While not working, Dr Mac enjoys spending time with her husband Shawn and their son. They have a loyal Rez dog named Sugar Bear and two cats with personalities matching their names, Gordita and Mr. Lickers. Dr Mac is honored to support your goals for the care of your pet family member. Call and schedule an appointment today.
